Well itโs been one crazy week. Sorry for the silence.
I went to Seattle to visit my brother and his family. On the way home my American Airlines flight was delayed, canceled, and then all American flights out of DFW (my lay over city) were canceled for the day.
My sons and I slept in the airport – never did that before!
The next day, after three unsuccessful attempts on the standby list, we finally got a flight home.
When I got home Microsoft Outlook was no longer sending and receiving email. After a while I figured out I had to uninstall and reinstall McAfee (security).
Things are finally back to normal!

I’ve heard that this summer is supposed to be the worst for airline travel. Before this experience I had another one two weeks ago – all flights were canceled out of Boston and I had to get a hotel that night. In 20 years of traveling that had never happened to me before. A survival guide is a great idea!

I was on a delayed flight from New Orleans this week. No harm done as we took off 1.5 hours after the scheduled time and were allowed to stay on board, use the electronic equipment, etc. There were some storms in Philadelphia, we were told by USAir.
Since this is becoming more de rigeur between weather, lack of back ups (lean and mean airlines), and threat scares, I do wonder if anyone has an “how to” plan to share. Food for thought… I might do a post on FC about it.
Thanks Chris. I find that lately I’m evolving into my own IT department. It’s a scary thought!
Geeze! Talk about adding insult to injury! It was an Outlook issue that got me off McAfee after being a with them for about 8 years. I’m glad you got your problem worked out relatively quickly! Welcome home. ๐
Hi Ellen!
I was going to do a post about American Airlines customer service. Out of all of the gate crews for a total of 7 flights that we waited for (approx. 21 people in all), 3 of them were outstanding at customer service, about 9 or 10 were mediocre and the rest were pitiful (mean, abrupt, uncaring, etc.).
They did NOTHING for us when we had to stay the night (we were able to get one cot – there were 3 of us) and we had stolen blankets off the last plane that was canceled (we had actually boarded that one before it got canceled).
It was an adventure. We did meet some really nice passengers that were stuck too!
Glad to hear your Ireland trip worked out (although bumpy).
Ann
Yikes! I am sorry you had to go through that with your flight, Anne. We had a flight to Ireland cancelled this time and that robbed the day we allow to humanize before the work. So we felt the strain for over a week.
Then coming home Delta delayed and missed every chance they could have won our loyalty – for their customer service. Did I just say service and airlines in the same sentence? ๐ So glad you are up and running again. Hope this weekend gives back in fun and energy!
